The true wonders of the world are the structures that have withstood time, war and destruction, and natural disaster and poverty.

Scientists and Archaeologists have been researching these amazing feats for years. They have established time lines for the beginning of life, the scriptures that foretold the future, and the artifacts left behind that have been carbon dated as far back as millions of years. If these remnants of history are still standing after the evolution of the world, then these are the true wonders of the world.

The Great Pyramid of Giza

This particular pyramid is the only original Wonder of the World still left standing from 2nd century BC. "Callimachus of Cyrene (305BC-240BC), Chief Librarian of the Alexandria Mouseion, wrote "A Collection of Wonders around the World." According to the original list, the Pyramid of Giza was one of the first added to the list. The pyramid is located in the city of Giza and is today a part of the greater Cairo area of Egypt.

Newgrange is over 5,000 years old and according to Carbon-14 dates, it is more than 500 years older than the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, and predates Stonehenge trilithons by about 1,000 years. What fascinated me most about this site is that a beam of light illuminates the floor of the structure during the Winter Solstice. Newgrange was constructed with such precision, it looks as though it was built yesterday.

The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall was initially built in sections for protection against different states. The sections were then fused in 221-206 BC during the Qin dynasty. The wall served its purpose well up until the time when the dynasty was weak from within the walls. Both the Mongols and Manchurians were able to invade due to the weakness and poverty of the people, not the wall itself. It wasn't until 1368-1644 that the wall started to appear as it looks today.

Mount Everest

Everest is located at the snowy peak of the Himalayas in Nepal, which stands on the border of Tibet. Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world reaching heights of 29,028 ft. The atmospheric pressure at the top of Everest is about a third of sea level pressure, implicating that there is about a third as much oxygen available to breathe as at sea level. Individuals that have reached the top have often said this was the closest to God they would ever be. I believe that this mountain may be the most challenging feat that anyone could possibly experience. It's a challenge in the spiritual sense, a natural phenomenon made by the Gods or whoever your God may be, and a chance to prove to yourself how powerful self preservation can be.

The Colosseum

The Colosseum is the most famous monument of Ancient Rome. Its original name is Flavian Amphitheatre. Construction of the site was originally started between 70 and 76 AD, and completed in 80 AD. Its name was derived from a huge statue depicting Nero, essentially a colossus of him. The first celebration of the opening consisted of 100 days worth of games including 50,000 spectators that crammed into the structure.

The Throne of Persepolis

Founded in the Sixth Century BC by the kings of the First Persian Empire, Persepolis is located 60 km northeast of Shiraz in Iran. The site was built to serve as a ceremonial and spiritual capital of the Persian Empire. The two staircases connect to a Gate of All Nations carved with various symbols from Armenians, Egyptians, Medians, and many others. Persepolis continued to flourish until 330 BC when Alexander the Great was said to set it on fire. "The city of Persepolis was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in 1979."

Borobudur Temple

This temple is located at Borobudur District, South of Magelang, and Central Java. Based on the inscription dating back to 842 AD, Casparis suggested that Borobudur was at one time a place for spiritual worship. The closed structure of the temple describes of a certain type of closed off world.

Lake Baikal

It is said that this lake is 25 million years old-the oldest lake on the planet. It is also the deepest lake, holding more water than all of North America's Great Lakes combined. Its marine life is composed of more than 1,500 animal species and 1,000 plant species. Baikal is not like any other lake on the planet in that it has oxygen- rich water that circulates from the surface to the deepest parts, implying geothermal vents. "To help the effort, UNESCO has recommended that the lake and its watershed be designated a World Heritage Site."

Palau

"Palau's coral reefs began to grow millions of years ago when coral polyps colonized submerged volcanic mountains." There is said to be over 700 assorted species of corals and 1500 classes of fish making it the most diverse reef on the planet.

The Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa

The catacombs, dating back to the 1st century AD, are located in one of my favorite cities on earth Alexandria, Egypt. It was a meeting place for people with common goals and tradition rather than war and destruction. Due to earthquakes and construction, the catacombs had been destroyed or obstructed. It wasn't until 1900 that by accident, a donkey fell through a hole in the ground and into the very heart of the structure.

The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon of the Colorado River is the largest gorge in the world-a 290-mile-long gash across the face of the Colorado Plateau in northern Arizona. Several distinct layers of sandstone, limestone, and shale speak of the advance and retreat of ancient seas, the building up and wearing down of mountains, the tortuous of rivers over 600 million years. It's been a revered spiritual site for Native Indians and a subject of mass speculation due to the supposive age of the great structure.

Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu was built around the year 1460, but deserted as an official site for the Inca rulers a hundred years later, at the time of the Spanish conquest of the Inca Empire. Machu Picchu is a Pre-Colombian Inca location located 2,400 meters above sea level and it's situated on a mountain crest above the Urubamba Valley in Peru. It's often referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas" and is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Inca Empire.

The Temple of Inscriptions

The Temple is located at the eastern edge of the Rio Usumacinta Basin in the foothills of the Sierra Oriental de Chiapas at an elevation of slightly less that 3000 m. Even though the earliest occupation of the site dates to about 100 BC, it only became a population around 600 AD and all construction at the site had halted by about 800 AD.

Petra

Petra was the capital city of Nabataeans and was dominated by a tribe of pre-Roman Arabs around the time of Sixth century BC. Despite several attempts to conquer their capital, the Nabataeans remained virtually self-regulating until the defeat of Antony and Cleopatra and the reunification of the Roman Empire by Octavian in 31 BC. In 106, the Romans finally captured Petra to mark the beginning of the decline of the city.

You’ll lose that societal statement that you’re ready to camp/bike/ski/relocate your entire wardrobe on a moment’s notice, but it’ll be replaced by the public affirmation that you’re doing what you can to drive smarter and cheaper.

8. Map Out The Shortest Route.

A great tip from hypermilers suggests that not only should you look for the shortest routes, but consider the flattest and least congested as well. It really is OK to question the directions you’ve followed for years. And while online directions can be a big help, we trust you know enough to take those sites’ suggestions with a boulder of salt. Try a few alternatives and learn firsthand. Also, while you’re driving, look further ahead than the next guy’s bumper to anticipate traffic-light timing and other factors that can disrupt steady progress. This too can have an effect on what is really the ultimate route for your gas-saving needs.

9. Keep Your Tires Full.

On a personal level, you could search for local people who share a common hobby, or on a business level, you could find a potential customer based on their interests. There are lots of great uses for advanced searches.

8. Twitter Lists

Following too many people, and missing out on tweets from some of your favorites? Instead of having to purge your Twitter following, now you can simply create lists and add the people that you want to follow more intently. So if you want to catch up on your friends’ tweets, celebrity tweets, or tweets on a particular subject, you can create a custom list which can be shared with the public or private to only you. If you’re not sure who to add to lists on a particular topic, you can check out sites like Listorious that keeps track of the best Twitter lists on almost every topic.

7. Social Oomph

Social Oomph (formerly TweetLater) is a free service that lets you set up auto following of anyone who follows you, auto Direct Messages (DM’s) to anyone who follows you, and scheduled tweets. In terms of auto DM’s, keep in mind that many people consider them spam. So if you choose to send them, don’t just blatantly promote your website. One idea is to throw out a question. If you go with that, be sure to check your messages so you can respond to anyone that answers. That response could be the opportunity to share a link, product, or service, assuming it is valuable.

6. Twitter Karma

If you choose to auto follow those that follow you, you will want to periodically prune the list of Twitter members that you are following. Who do you want to stop following? How about the Twitter members who use automated following software to boost their numbers – they will follow you, anticipating you to follow back, then they will unfollow you. Twitter Karma will show everyone you are connected to on Twitter, and whether it is a mutual following, you are following them only, or they are following you only.

5. Twellow

Looking for people to follow who are interested in the same things that you are? Twellow is one of the easiest to navigate Twitter directories. You can browse through specific categories or search for specific keywords in Twitter bios. I would also recommend adding yourself to these directories with an extended bio including more information about yourself, your websites (if applicable) and other social network profiles where people can find you.

4. TwitterCounter

TwitterCounter is a great tool to see how many people are following you over time, so you will be able to tell if your numbers are going up or going down. You can see the top 100 Twitter members in a particular region as well as search for members with particular keywords in their Twitter bio. As an added bonus, you can view the stats for each member in the search results. If you are trying to build followers, follow members that have an even ratio of following vs. followers, as these are members that auto follow everyone back.

3. Tweepi

Tweepi allows you to enter the username of a Twitter member and see statistics about that members’ followers such as their number of followers vs. following, how many times they retweet others, how many times they are retweeted, when they last updated, how many times they reply to others, and where they are located. This can come in handy if you find a Twitter member whose followers would also be interested in your tweets.

2. TwitterFeed

TwitterFeed is a service that allows you to automatically tweet new RSS items to one or more Twitter accounts. For example, if there is a blog that you find you always want to tweet their latest articles, you could put the RSS feed URL into TwitterFeed, and it would publish a tweet every time a new article has been added. This is a great way to always have interesting content for your Twitter followers automagically flowing through your Twitter feed.

HootSuite is one of the top Twitter management tools. It allows you to manage multiple accounts in a tabbed interface, and under each account you can have multiple columns to keep track of mentions, direct messages, lists, keyword searches, and more. You can also shorten URLs in the HootSuite dashboard, and keep track of the statistics for tweets with Ow.ly URLs.

Motorola Backflip comes to Europe next week as Enzo

The Motorola Backflip is a curious looking phone, but at least it is different from the cookie-cutter line of touchscreen, iPhone wannabees that tend to dominate the Android world. And now the phone is coming to Europe, only a month after it shipped in the US with AT&T. It is likely to be renamed Enzo, in line with Motorola’s habit of offering specific names for its US carriers and then a generic label for international markets (Droid-Milestone etc).

The first Europeans to get their hands on the handset will be the Germans, who will be able to buy it SIM-free for €439 from next week, though operator deals and subsidies are still to be announced. UK users are also expected to get the same deal by April 22, though again, no carrier options yet (or if you’re really impatient, get one shipped from Germany). As so often, deals come more expensive than across the pond, where an unlocked handset can be had for $349.

The device has a 3.1-inch touchscreen, the customized Motoblur user interface and midrange specs. And European customers will have more freedom than their US counterparts to choose their own apps and search engines (in the US, non-Android Market apps have been blocked, and the phone comes preloaded with Yahoo).

The key feature of the Backflip, of course, is its distinctive, love-it-or-hate-it reverse flip design. The Backflip’s qwerty keyboard ends up on the back of the phone when it is closed – instead of sliding, it folds back to cover the backplate. The best thing about Enzo versus Backflip it an OS upgrade – it will come with Android 2.1, not the old release 1.5 of its US version.

Other specs - a 3.1-inch touchscreen display with 320 x 480 resolution, Wi-Fi and a 5-megapixel camera – which has to be in an unusual position because of the back-folding keyboard, and has ended up on the bottom left corner of the keyboard.

Score a Baseball Game

Attention to detail and knowledge of the game are vital in the ability to properly score a game. Knowing that a runner touching home scores a run is not enough. A man should be able to document in only a few letters, numbers, and symbols everything that he sees happen from the first pitch to the final out. You should also be able to explain why “BB” means walk.

Build a Fire

This seemingly basic skill is often overlooked by those who never joined the Boy Scouts. The skill was fine-tuned centuries ago, but one can never be sure when he will have to provide a fire for warmth, to cook, or for sheer pleasure. Start with small dry twigs in the shape of a teepee, and slowly build up to larger pieces of wood. Don’t smother it, but don’t let too much air in.

Tie a Tie

Imagine waking up the day of an important meeting or interview, showering, getting dressed, and then not being able to tie the tie. The open collar look might work for some of us, but for most it will simply look sloppy. There are plenty of videos on youtube to help you out. Personally I use a little cheat-sheet given to my grandfather by a department store in the ‘50s. Some things just don’t change with time. Looking good is one of them. I recommend learning the “four in hand” method as it is the simplest – the adventurous might want to try a full windsor. Be sure to have a dimple in the tie (as is visible in the picture above).

Whether in the pool hall or a volleyball game at the company picnic, no one wants to lose. More importantly, no one wants to look like an idiot. As they say, you can’t win them all, but you can keep yourself from being embarrassed. A man should know the basic skills of every major sport, football, basketball, soccer, baseball, hockey, and various forms of non athletic games such as poker, pool, and fishing. Also, one should be able to explain the rules and basic skills of any of these competitions to any woman who asks.

Car Maintenance

Every man has been in this situation: On a date with a cute girl, when suddenly the car stops working. She looks at you with those wide eyes, assuming you know how to fix it. Surprise ladies, we are not all mechanics. However, a man should be able to change a tire, jump start a car, recognize any fluids in the car, and be able to get the car to someone who can fix it, while not showing weakness in front of his lady.

As a man, you have certain responsibilities to your friends. Possibly the most important one is to help him get laid. A good conversation is almost an art form. The ability to be interesting and charismatic without dominating a conversation is a skill reserved for the real men amongst us. A man should have a good joke on hand, as well as a supported opinion of most current events, from the threat of Iran as a nuclear power to the Pacers’ need for a starting center.

Basic first aid

CPR, the Heimlich maneuver, dressing cuts, scrapes, burns, and bruises, are all invaluable skills that could benefit you to know. It could mean the difference between life and death, or simply make you more comfortable. The possible importance of these skills can not be understated. Knowing these skills will also keep you from panicking if the situation should arise. It will keep everyone safer and can save lives.

Fix things

As Clint Eastwood said in Gran Torino, “WD-40, a vice grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone”. Most household problems, from squeaky doors to dripping faucets, can be fixed easily by anyone with a clue. Fixing things by yourself will save you money and be more satisfying than calling in a professional.

Cook

Long gone are the days of hunting and gathering, where any food was considered good food. A real man should know his way around a kitchen and be able to cook a good meal now and again. Attila the Hun

One of the most notorious villains in history, Attila’s army had conquered all of Asia by 450 AD-from Mongolia to the edge of the Russian Empire-by destroying villages and pillaging the countryside.

How he died: He got a nosebleed on his wedding night.In 453 AD, Attila married a young girl named Ildico. Despite his reputation for ferocity on the battlefield, he tended to eat and drink lightly during large banquets. On hiswedding night, however, he really cut loose, gorging himself on food and drink. Sometime during the night he suffered a nosebleed, but was too drunk to notice. He drowned in his own blood and was found dead the next morning.

Tycho Brahe

An important Danish astronomer of the 16th century. His ground breaking research allowed Sir Isaac Newton to come up with the theory of gravity.

How he died: Didn’t get to the bathroom in time. In the 16th century, it was considered an insult to leave a banquet table before the meal was over. Brahe, known to drink excessively, had a bladder condition-but failed to relieve himself before the banquet started. He made matters worse by drinking too much at dinner, and was too polite to ask to be excused. His bladder finally burst, killing him slowly and painfully over the next 11 days.

Horace Wells

Pioneered the use of anesthesia in the 1840s

How he died: Used anesthetics to commit suicide. While experimenting with various gases during his anesthesia research, Wells became addicted to chloroform. In 1848 he was arrested for spraying two women with sulfuric acid. In a letter he wrote from jail, he blamed chloroform for his problems, claiming that he’d gotten high before the attack. Four days later he was found dead in his cell. He’d anaesthetized himself with chloroform and slashed open his thigh with a razor.

Francis Bacon

One of the most influential minds of the late 16th century. A statesman, a philosopher, a writer, and a scientist, he was even rumored to have written some of Shakespeare’s plays.

How he died: Stuffing snow into a chicken One afternoon in 1625, Bacon was watching a snowstorm and was struck by the wondrous notion that maybe snow could be used to preserve meat in the same way that salt was used. Determined to find out, he purchased a chicken from a nearby village, killed it, and then, standing outside in the snow, attempted to stuff the chicken full of snow to freeze it. The chicken never froze, but Bacon did.

Jerome Irving Rodale

Founding father of the organic food movement, creator of “Organic Farming and Gardening” magazine, and founder of Rodale Press, a major publishing corporation.

How he died: On the “Dick Cavett Show”, while discussing the benefits of organic foods. Rodale, who bragged “I’m going to live to be 100 unless I’m run down by a sugar-crazed taxi driver,” was only 72 when he appeared on the “Dick Cavett Show” in January 1971. Part way through the interview, he dropped dead in his chair. Cause of death: heart attack. The show was never aired.

Aeschylus

A Greek playwright back in 500 BC. Many historians consider him the father of Greek tragedies.

How he died: An eagle dropped a tortoise on his head According to legend, eagles picked up tortoises and attempt to crack them open by dropping them on rocks. An eagle mistook Aeschylus’ head for a rock (he was bald) and dropped it on him instead.

Jim Fixx

Author of the best selling “Complete Book of Running,” which started the jogging craze of the 1970s.

How he died: A heart attack….while jogging Fixx was visiting Greensboro, Vermont when he walked out of his house and began jogging. He’d only gone a short distance when he had a massive coronary. His autopsy revealed that one of his coronary arteries was 99% clogged, another was 80% obstructed, and a third was 70% blocked….and that Fixx had had three other attacks in the weeks prior to his death.

It is a very easy thing to hate the United States of America right now. But why? We stormed the beaches at Normandy, saved Europe from economic ruin with the Marshall plan (thanks for paying off the loan, Norway. Anybody else? Anybody? Bueller?), invented the Internet, uprooted tyrants, and give foreign aid away like it was candy. We want to be the good guys and thought we were. Yet we just can’t seem to get any love these days. How’d we get here? Well… [JFrater: as the representative of Listverse, I would like to say that we don't hate America - in fact, I had one of my greatest holidays there. This list will no doubt cause a storm - be calm and debate nicely!]

Center of the Universe

The first reason: we act like the world revolves around us. America presumes much for a country generously dated at 300 years old. China has latrines ten times older than that. A quick example: many countries play baseball, but only we have the “World Series”. We’re getting better about our egocentrism, but it’s been a loooong time coming. And don’t get me started about our tourists. Just smile and take the money- they’re loud, but they’ll be gone in a week.

We Win Everything

Okay, I’ll concede Vietnam, tennis (but we don’t care) and Kenyan marathon runners. But we win damn near everything else, eventually. The Space Race. The Cold War. Tour de France. The list goes on and on. Even we hate the Olympics now that our professionals are allowed to participate straight up with the underaged/doping communist nations. It’s boring for us, but as a Red Sox/Bolton Wanderers fan, I know the angst that chronic losing against bigger and better funded opponents generates. And if we don’t have the best athletes/scientists/entertainers, we’ll make sure they get a chance to immigrate while others wait in line. That’s gotta sting. Oh, Yao Ming and Ichiro say “Hi”.

We Eat Everything

Why? Because we can. Americans are the second fattest industrialized nation per capita (sorry, Australia). But as always, we make up for it in volume. We can afford automobiles so we don’t ride bikes or walk anywhere except for fun, and thanks to abundant agricultural surpluses, ANYTHING we want to eat is readily available from takeaway restaurants and convenience stores. Some of our refrigerators could hide an entire human body. And we like the fatty stuff, because fat tastes good. This is NOT a good thing, and our global franchises (KFC, McDonald’s) are already infecting nations that traditionally had healthier diets (are you listening, Japan?)

We Made and Have Nukes

The United States is the inventor and only wartime practitioner of nuclear weapons (never mind that using them prevented an invasion that would make the Iraqi insurgency look like a blowjob. “Operation Downfall”, the now-declassified US plan to invade Japan, estimated 1 Million American casualties alone). Lax security protocols (and clever spying) spread the secret to the USSR and after that the genie got out of the bottle. Many countries now have atomic weapons, and with no clear Cold War counterpart to US supremacy, the balance has shifted, and the peace dividend has not been kind post 9/11.

Natural Resources

Though accounting for only 5 percent of the world’s population, Americans consume 26 percent of the world’s energy. (American Almanac), and we are the world’s largest single emitter of carbon dioxide, accounting for 23 percent of energy-related carbon emissions worldwide. (U.S. Department of Energy). This, while worldwide, some 2 billion people are currently without electricity. (U.S. Department of Energy). The good news is that among industrialized and developing countries, Canada consumes per capita the most energy in the world, and the United Sates is only second. Italy consumes the least among industrialized countries (that’s because they still drive Fiats, which “conserve” energy by breaking every other day).

International Meddling

The United States has the most advanced army in the world. We station our military in other countries at their “request”, which is a source of much seething and hurt national pride. From Banana Republics, to the Cold War, to the War on Terror, we routinely interfere in the business of other countries to make the world safe for our interests, whether anybody asked for it or not. Even if the intentions are both right and good, many countries resent our involvement in their affairs on sheer principle: they’d rather f*** it up themselves. Are you listening, North Korea?

We Export Trash Culture

A thriving market economy and near total freedom of expression liberate Americans to pursue almost every endeavor imaginable, resulting in some of the greatest discoveries and inventions in the history of man, from the first practical light bulb to powered flight, polio vaccines, radio and TV, space exploration, the Internet, and unfortunately, everything in between. So that means ubercrap like Jerry Springer and Britney Spears gets exported worldwide. No, I’m being too kind there– “force fed” worldwide. Other cultures despise this with a mix of dread, envy, and loathing. They can’t figure out how to cull the good from the bad out of this torrent (neither can we, btw)—but once it takes hold, it won’t let go. This what the Islamic world fears most. Tanks, they understand. An educated, employed woman horny and clubbing on Friday night they simply can’t fathom. And it scares the crap out of them.

It’s Fashionable

Despite the hyperbole bandied online, strong political opinions won’t get your door kicked in at 3 AM like in the Gulag Archipelago. There are no Stalinist purges or killing fields here. And the FBI/CIA/ATF/DEA/PTA will not shoot you on sight simply because you speak against The Surge or march against the Economic Stimulus Plan. But it’s certainly fun to claim a fear of it! You become an instant radical and feel intellectually enlightened to boot– patriotism is an uncritical, reflexive act, right?– only a deep thinker would hate his country (yet stay on to enjoy its privileges). And don’t worry about proof, because all that matters is the accusation. Volume and conviction win the day, so toss that bibliography—grab half the story and make the rest up. If you get caught in a logic box, claim satire. Other countries see this lack of consequences and pile on.

We Don’t Finish the Job

From Vietnam to Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinski to “Mission Accomplished” in Iraq to finding Osama Bin Laden, we seem to do most of the work, but keep a lot of things hanging on, never quite finished. Eventually the answer makes itself known, but it usually takes time, and involves help from others after a lot of (necessary) heated discussions. Maybe we should try this as as a first course of action more often…

We Act Unilaterally

We are a nation of doers, and our errors (when they occur) will be from acts of commission, not omission (Hypocrisy Alert: Darfur). Sometimes that’s a great thing, like sending Kruschev’s missiles back home, breaking Gaddafi’s/Qaddafi’s/Kaddafi’s nuclear ambitions (his nukes are now safely tucked away in Oak Ridge, Tennessee), or winning the Cold War. Other times, it blows up in our (and often, YOUR) face. Our attempts to spread democracy worldwide, intended to let others enjoy the same freedoms and advantages that we have, sometimes result in innocent people dying. We must stop to remember the Somalia embassy, Madrid and Fiji and Lockerbie 101 bombings, along with the millions of nameless others who suffered and died in countries that are not free. The US is the biggest face opposing these things that actually does anything (not just talk, FRANCE. You railed about Guantanamo but when it came time to release prisoners you took ONE.), but our allies often bear the brunt of our “foreign” wars, because the enemy cannot reach us. That has changed recently, and while it has altered our perspective, it has not altered our resolve.

In the United States there are now these types of Anacondas, however, the majority are of course kept on the zoo and there have been no report yet of such green animal being found on Florida swamps yet.

Green Anacondas get their name from their skin color. The color of their skin is on the darker side of green, with black oval-shaped patterns spotting their backs. The sides are uniformly splattered with black spots that have a yellow center. Indeed, with their smooth and shiny skin, they are attractive creatures to look at from afar. This unique coloration helps them to remain hidden away in swampy and marshy habitats.

Apart from the skin color, the color of their nostrils and eyes are adapted to their living habitat. The eyes and nostrils are on the top of their heads. This enables them to breath and simultaneously watch out for their prey, while keeping their body hidden underwater

Like all other anacondas, the Green Anaconda emits an unpleasant and pungent smell. To be precise, this is musk from their anal glands. Experts say that this smell keeps small, poisonous organisms at bay.

Green Anacondas feed on big animals ranging from capybaras, deers, peccaries and even jaguars. But this does not mean that they do not feed on smaller preys. They gobble up fishes, birds, sheep, and other aquatic beings. These make for a light meal once in a while. The bigger the prey - the more rest they earn for themselves.

The future of Green Anacondas is pretty bleak, their greatest threat being man. People kill them usually out of fear. Another reason for the decline in the number of the Green Anacondas is the leather business. Trade of anaconda skins is prevalent in the areas where they are found.

Also, destruction and degradation of their habitat, along with expansion of land for agricultural purposes has added to bringing down the numbers of Green Anacondas drastically. Joan Colom and the lower parts of Barcelona

Colom, born in 1921, self-taught man, started taking photographs in 1957. He is one of the elements in the so-called "new vanguard" of Spanish photography, seeking inspiration in photographers such as Cartier-Bresson, Man Ray, Doisneau, Walker Evans and Helen Levitt.

Over the course of three years, Colom visited the Barrio Chino (currently, Raval), which, in his own words, was "the only place in Barcelona where I can see mankind". Like today, the Raval was a neighbourhood of poverty and prostitution, In such a difficult environment, conflict and the manifestation of the most basic human needs were frequent. Colom used a technique all his own: he placed the camera around his waist and shot pictures, without looking, doing some lab work on them, later.

What is most impressive about Colom's pictures is precisely this sly and immediate character, this voyeur of humanity perspective, without ever falling into the exotic or the sentimental, but also without trying to give an epic or tragic dimension to the lives of those men and women. Hands groping buttocks, large breasts in 50s brassieres, flesh overflowing from clothes and looks. Dirty children, proletarians and proletarians' children.

This secrecy gives Colom's work a particular documentary value. In 1964, the photographer published a book with these pictures and texts written by Camilo José Cela, entitled Izas, rabizas y colipoterras. Controversy ensued - it was during the last years of fascist Spain; later, one of the women pictured filed a complaint. Colom gave up photography until the 1980s.

In the meantime, he had made two other note-worthy works: photographs of the El Born market, in 1963, and a series of photos about the gypsy neighbourhood of Sorromostro, one of the poorest in the city, which was being dismantled as Barcelona's coastal promenade advanced into the Poblenou area, in 1964. It consisted of images of the great engineering work progressing over the slums and the people who lived on the city's beach. Poblenou is, today, one of the most developed areas in the city, so Colom's photographs represent a critical memory of the city’s popular classes.

I have no idea what Colom thinks about the current development of the Raval. In order to host the 1992 Olympic Games, the most troublesome part of the neighbourhood was shattered, giving way to a fresher Raval, without a doubt more appreciated by its inhabitants; however, this change also implied the loss of housing for many families, driven to the suburbs. The Raval is still dirty, dark, working-class, with drugs and drunks and prostitution. It's an immigrant neighbourhood, where it is easier to fing an Islamic butchershop than a churreria. That gives it, in the middle of the city, a pleasant homely feeling, for those who don't have to suffer with its problems. Still, the pressure from the neighbouring Rambla is transforming it in an uneven way: it is being more sought after for luxury hotels. And by becoming more economically attractive, the population is beginning to suffer with the economic speculation.

The most controversial episode was a police operation in which over 30 people were arrested for being connected with a prostitution network. Criticism isn't aimed at the operation itself, but to the fact that it took place right after the inauguration of a new five-star hotel, very close to one of the streets where prostitution is dealt with openly. There, women from all over the world, from all ages, walk the same sidewalks as clients, tourists, students and families with children, without anyone being bothered by any of it. The bra models change, the hair-dos change. But there are still the same hands in the same buttocks, the same misery, now only two steps away from a luxurious hotel.

Scott worked steadily through the early 2000’s until he took a small break to start his family. He married Kelley Limp (of Real World New Orleans fame) in 2004 and had a son in March of 2009. But he’s back in the biz now, with a major role in the new sci-fi TV show “V,” playing ambitious journalist Chade Decker.

Luke Perry. Was this 90210 stud hot or what? So what’s going on with him?

Gone is Dylan McKay, here is a middle aged actor who keeps picking the wrong roles. After his run on 90210, Perry decided to cool things off and go for more ambitious roles. Most recently, you may recall he starred in the short-lived HBO series John from Cincinnati in 2007, which lasted 10 episodes. He was asked to reprise his role as Dylan McKay in the new CW version of 90210, but he declined.

The Hanson Brothers. Zac, Tyler, and Isaac. Ahh, our memories of “Mmmbop” will never ever go away (and we have to admit, we still rock out to it). So where is this adorable trio these days?

Zac, Taylor, and Isaac have all met their dream girls and are happily married. Isaac has one girl, Taylor has 3 kids, and Zac is yet to become a daddy (but soon, he says!!). And after taking some time off but never officially ever calling it quits, the boys have announced a co-headlining tour with Hello Goodbye and a new album out called “Shout it Out,” which will be released on June 1, 2010!! We can’t wait!

He had big roles in “Bring It On” as Kirsten Dunst’s love interest and as the hunk in 2002’s “Swimfan.” Nowadays, he makes apperances in small TV shows and also was the co-owner of the Semi-Private NY Nightclub, The Plumm, with fellow Chris Noth, Samantha Ronson, and Noel Ashman.

Jonathan Jackson. Also known as Lucky Spencer on the oh-so-dramatic soap “General Hospital.” His movie roles included parts in Camp Nowhere, Trapped in a Purple Haze, The Deep End of the Ocean, Tuck Everlasting, Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, Insomnia, and Stephen King’s Riding the Bullet.

Jackson is one of the few teen idols to stay in the spotlight and keep his career on track (he’s won 3 emmys). Before the hit Fox TV show Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles was canceled last year, he had a recurring role. After a 10-year-hiatus from General Hospital, he returned to the show last year. He had also had luck in her personal life, marrying fellow GH actress Lisa Vultaggio in 2002 and becoming a dad!

Reagan, the 40th President of the USA, started his fast-growing career as an actor in Hollywood, and though he didnвЂ™t become very popular as an actor, he became a well known statesman. The doors of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library were opened in a small town of Simi Valley (California) in 1991.

Google Maps. This is the Discovery Scientific Center. Its main task is to educate young minds using interactive exhibits and programs. The building itself looks pretty unusual. In particular, this black cube that is situated on the roof attracts childвЂ™s attention from a distance.

IKEA for Paris Metro

When you don’t have anything to do on a Saturday, spending it at IKEA is always a good time. Whether you lounge in their faux rooms or dine on swedish meatballs and ligonberry (whatever that is), the Scandinavian furniture giant doesn’t disappoint. Known for their unique marketing stunts, in 2008 they reconstructed of the Oval Office in DC’s Union Station. They’ve also taken over Japanese subway trains, where standard seats were replaced with IKEA furniture. In their newest marketing campaign, IKEA has furnished four of Paris’ busiest metro stops with sofas, lamps and trompe l’oeil-like posters of cabinets and bookshelves. The live installation will take place through March 24th.

IKEA hopes that by creating this outrageous, unexpected space, passengers in transit will test out the comfort and durability of their Ektorp and Kalstad couches or Brasa floor lamps.

Samsung's Transparent OLED Laptop Coming Soon

Samsung's transparent AMOLED technology is hitting the market within the next 12 months.

Plastic Electronics reports that Samsung Electronics will release products using its clear active matrix OLED displays within the next 12 months. Samsung displayed prototypes using the clear AMOLEDs during CES 2010 back in January. However this is the first indication that the models on display will actually head to retail any time soon.

As we saw during the show, the laptop sporting Samsung's clear AMOLED allowed the user to see objects placed behind the screen while still offering sharp, bright images on the display. While the actual technology was quite impressive, the ability to see movement through the AMOLED screen looked to be somewhat distracting.

Plastic Electronics said that the first device to go commercial using the tech will be Samsung's IceTouch MP3 player (YP-H1). This device is a portable all-in-one that plays music, DVDs, tunes in FM radio stations, and more. The estimated price will be around $328 USD when it finally hits the market.

Reid Sullivan, VP of audio/video and digital imaging marketing at Samsung Electronics America, said that the AMOLED display should raise the bar for the next generation of portable devices. While that's all fine and dandy, where's that cool 14-inch laptop we saw at CES 2010? Apparently that should be on the market within the next twelve months too.

"We have a lab in Korea that is currently working on developing a laptop with partially-transparent screen," Sullivan said. "Soon, I imagine that all Samsung's audio-visual products will feature this technology. We want to be the first in this market."

The designer tells us that the shape was inspired by the skeleton of a cuttlefish which gives it a look halfway between a sports car and a speed boat. Some existing Audi styling cues can be seen such as the huge air intake which approximates the shape of the radiator grill on modern Audi automobiles.

The Calamaro is supposed to run on ‘clean fuels’ but its not clear how since the air intake isn’t connected to anything and there seems to be no visible means of propulsion — or flight — or anything else!

Having said that it does look pretty sensational.

A designer has proposed a stunning concept mobile phone for the Finnish phone makers “Nokia”, the handset is called “Nokia BMW video phone”, what a concept phone it is as well, come on make the handset and I will buy one.

The Nokia BMW mobile phone has something stunning called “push to open” which is basically a mechanism that rotates 90 degrees which will turn it into a handy-cam. All we say is Nokia should pull their finger out and get this into motion before someone like Sony Ericsson steps up to the plate. Game On.
